Stay Strong
We are experiencing a time like none other in history. We are being asked to give up our personal privileges and freedoms for the greater good. We are urged and now ordered in some places to stay home and stay healthy.
For the average American much of the consequences from this pandemic are losses that we will recover from, but for others it is literally life and death. I do feel my own sense of sadness for our vacation that was cut short, for the loss of a schedule for my kids, and for being isolated from my family, friends, and new found gym community, but I am also no stranger to this type of isolation (we do a lot of isolating in the winters for Finn’s sake) and I know, as my mother always used to say, “this too shall pass.”
While I feel sadness for my own small losses, my heart aches for those experiencing great hardships. For family members in hospitals the strict visitor restrictions are putting incredible strain on families. For older patients they may not be allowed ANY visitors, and many babies and children are only allowed to have one parent with them who may not leave or trade off with another parent for fear that they will bring in the virus from the outside.
This means one parent has the burden of being in the hospital 24/7 and another parent has the burden of not being able to see their child. Siblings, grandparents, aunts and uncles cannot even consider a visit to see the child, deliver food, or offer a respite for the parents by being with the child.
As a mom who had a child in the hospital I can only imagine how challenging this time must be. Our family was everything to us and the time that both my husband and I got to spend with our son helped our bonds grow in those early days.
